Social Security Disability Compassionate Allowance rules allow an individual with an impairment on the compassionate allowance list to be quickly granted Social Security Disability benefits.
While this is a very necessary and helpful benefit, very few people will actually qualify for compassionate allowance. As Social Security Disability Attorneys, it is imperative to know this list and whether clients meet the severity required of cases. Were a diagnosis is unclear or does not match the language of the listing, it is important to contact the medical provider to seek clarification.
While many Claimant’s will not meet the severity or exact language of the compassionate allowance list, this is but one way to qualify for Social Security Disability benefits. Even though a claimant does not have a listed impairment on the compassionate allowance list, they may nevertheless try to prove their case under a medical-vocational rule, the GRIDS, or the sequential evaluation process.
Below is the most current list of compassionate allowance conditions with the new conditions in red.
